Meet Gail

Hi.  My name is Gail Evans.  I am licensed through the Virginia Board of Health Professions as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).  I have been practicing as a therapist for 10 years.  My specialty is working with individuals and groups from the foundation of mindfulness.  Many people find themselves steeped in the past or worried about the future.  I help people learn how to stay in the present moment which can help release excessive sadness and fear.  I work with many clients using the principles of Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, commonly known as DBT.

I enjoy working with people who have been affected by health challenges.  This work often includes looking at the need for lifestyle changes, coping with feelings of loss and finding creative ways to increase self-care.  I provide this support for both patients and their families.

I have been solving difficult problems for individuals and families much of my life.  For the past 35 years I have been leading change in the human services arena through the positions of case manager, volunteer coordinator, program director, instructor, CEO and board member. I am good at supporting people who are working to achieve positive results for themselves and their communities.  This enlivens my work as both therapist and coach, as I encourage you to stretch and grow into being your best.

In addition to managing a counseling practise,  I am an adjunct instructor at Virginia Western Community College teaching courses in both Health and Psychology.   Prior to these positions I worked as an outpatient therapist for adults with serious psychological challenges at Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare.  My career includes many years in non-profit management pioneering change for social services and the arts.
